Measuring Flexure of a GP Lens
by Kelly Indovina, O.D

Have you ever wondered if a GP lens is flexing on a patient’s eye?
A simple way to determine a quantitative measurement of flexure is to do keratometry readings while the patient is wearing the lens.
Flexure may be advantageous when the corneal cylinder exceeds the refractive cylinder. A slightly steep thin lens is more likely to flex. On the contrary, if your goal is to reduce flexure, flatten the fit and increase center thickness. A high Dk material may also flex more readily than a low to mid-range Dk.
