Art Optical Consultation Supervisor Earns CLSA Fellowship

Art Optical Contact Lens, Inc., is pleased to announce the achievement of Janet M. Gilman, Consultation Department Supervisor, on having reached Fellow status in the Contact Lens Society of America. Gilman recently finished the three-step Fellow process by successfully completing the Practical Fellow Exam at the Contact Lens & Eyecare Symposium held in San Diego, CA, in January. She is the second member in the history of Art Optical’s consultation department to earn Fellowship, and joins an elite group of the world’s most renowned and experienced contact lens fitting professionals. Michael A. Johnson, Art Optical’s Director of Consultation Services, earned CLSA Fellowship in 2000.
“Reaching Fellow status is an acknowledgement of Janet’s depth of contact lens knowledge and further validates her proficiency in the field,” said Johnson. “Eye care practitioners throughout the U.S. are truly receiving the best care and advice when they work with the Art Optical consultation group,” he continued. Widely recognized as one of the largest and most experienced consultation teams in the industry, Art Optical employs an Optometrist, two FCLSA certified fitting consultants (Johnson and Gilman) and four NCLC certified consultants full-time. This level of expertise and depth allows Art Optical to provide immediate fitting assistance to practitioners, a service greatly appreciated by their customers.
Gilman, a 20-year contact lens veteran, received her initial contact lens training at Kalamazoo Ophthalmology in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and gained additional ophthalmic experience as an Ophthalmic Assistant for Sassaman Eye Associates, also in Kalamazoo. Gilman obtained certification while employed at Sight Eye Clinic (Holland, MI) in 1995 and went on to Grand Rapids Ophthalmology (Grand Rapids, MI) as a Certified Ophthalmic Technician in 1996. Since joining Art Optical in 2001, Gilman has provided expertise and assistance in GP lens design, fitting, and troubleshooting for Ophthalmologists, Optometrists and Opticians nationwide. Janet received NCLC certification in 1986 and her Advanced Certification in 2002. She is also a published author, and has had contact lens fitting articles appear in Eyewitness Magazine, as well as Art Optical’s practitioner newsletter, Articles.
