Art Optical Introduces Intelliwave® Precise Prescription Soft Contact Lenses

Art Optical Contact Lens, Inc. is pleased to announce the availability of Intelliwave®, a new line of precise prescription, made-to-order soft contact lenses. Using proven lens design technology licensed from UltraVision CLPL in the UK, Art Optical now offers advanced, lathe-cut, soft contact lenses to their extensive base of U.S. customers. As the world’s largest independent manufacturer of GP lenses, Art Optical brings 50 years of custom contact lens experience to this new and exciting venture. Offering made-to-order soft lens options in addition to their full line of gas permeable lenses now allows the company to fully serve the specialty contact lens practitioner.

Incorporating patented wavefront technology and aberration control, Intelliwave lenses are available in aspheric, aspheric toric, multifocal and multifocal toric design options, and are offered in parameter ranges that are completely customizable to match the precise prescription requirements of each individual patient. Custom manufactured and ready for shipment in just four business days, Intelliwave lenses offer practitioners and patients a faster, more precise, soft lens option. Complete details on the Intelliwave product line can be found at the company web site – www.artoptical.com.

To accompany the Intelliwave lenses, Art Optical is also introducing the Intelliwave Precise Protection Plan, which provides lens exchanges and full cancellation privileges. While the full cancellation option is somewhat unique in the soft lens industry, the concept is familiar to Art Optical, and integral to their success. According to Mike Johnson, FCLSA, Director of Consultation Services, “Art Optical has built a trusted reputation with our practitioners by providing quality contact lenses and designs backed by warranty programs that provide practice protection. We realize that despite our best efforts, patients are not successful 100% of the time. It’s important for doctors to feel confident in attempting the best lens option anyway,” he continued.

When choosing Intelliwave lenses, specialty contact lens fitting practitioners, as well as those less experienced in custom contact lens fitting, will benefit from the expertise of the Art Optical consultation team. To insure immediate access to professional advice and lens fitting assistance, Art Optical’s dedicated, toll-free consultation line is serviced by a large staff of nine fitting consultants including two OD’s, two FCLSA (Fellow Contact Lens Society of America), and five NCLE/NCLE-AC certified consultants.

“Most practitioners will agree that their application of GP lenses has shifted to more specialty use over the past several years,” said Johnson. “Art Optical adapted to the specialty trend early and built our consultation availability and skill set in order to manage the high volume and wide range of complex patients and design requirements we see routinely. Our capabilities in consultation are extremely well-suited to broaden our scope of service to our Intelliwave custom soft lens product line.”

After finalizing the licensing agreement with UltraVision CLPL just over a year ago, Art Optical completed construction, equipment installation, and facility certification of a new soft lens laboratory at their Grand Rapids, Michigan location, and applied for product approval with the FDA. The Intelliwave 510k approval was granted in early July. Art Optical Contact Lens, Inc. is the exclusive U.S. manufacturer of the Intelliwave product line.

UltraVision CLPL is the largest independent, dedicated contact lens manufacturer and supplier in the UK, holding numerous patented contact lens designs in territories all around the world. In 2006, they received the very highest level of recognition that can be bestowed on any UK business, The Queen’s Award for Enterprise – Innovation. The award was received specifically for the patented contact lens design behind Intelliwave.

Established in 1931, Art Optical specializes in custom contact lenses made to exacting standards for the correction of refractive errors including myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, and presbyopia, as well as custom contact lenses by practitioner prescription for pediatric patients, and those with post corneal trauma, pathological concerns, and ocular disease.
