Practitioner Acceptance Growing for Plasma GP Lens Treatment Process

In response to the increasing popularity and acceptance of the Plasma GP Lens Treatment Process, Art Optical has recently added the Optimum line of GP lens materials (Optimum Classic, Optimum Comfort, Optimum Extra, Optimum Extreme) to its growing list of products with FDA approval for plasma treatment. With the addition of the Optimum material line, Art Optical is now able to plasma treat the lens surface to maximize lens wettability on the majority of their GP lens orders.

Since introducing the plasma treatment option late last August, practitioner acceptance has grown rapidly. “In these few short months, over 21% of our practitioners have tried the plasma treatment option,” said Michael A. Johnson, FCLSA and Director of Consultation services at Art Optical. “Of that 21%, a full 20% of them are ordering plasma with some consistency,” he continued. “Doctors who truly recognize the benefit of the plasma process are able to present the enhanced wettability and comfort factors to their patients,” said Johnson. “And because the additional cost for the plasma treatment is nominal, most of our practitioners are getting a strong reception from their patients – both initially and at follow-up visits,” he said.

“We’re seeing very positive trends in terms of patient comfort and …..” said Thomas Bock, OD, of Zeeland Vision Services in Zeeland, Michigan. “I’m definitely hooked on the plasma process,” he continued. “I’m recommending it to everyone.”
